We were asked to produce a sign for this development informing the public of the details for the various Housing Associations involved. Normally a straight forward request, however in this instance the sign itself measured 5m wide x 5m high and had to show above the hoarding by at least 1m. When you then add in that it had to be completely assembled on the ground due to the fact there is an 11,000 volt power station below it and the ground had been excavated down to an 8m depth it becomes a issue!

We had a steel framework designed that could cope with the wind forces involved, be assembled at ground level and could cope with being craned into place in one piece. The idea was to mount the sign to the back of the sheet piling surrounding the site, this had already been 'pushed' some 14m into the ground. Suitable brackets and supports were welded into place and a 55 tonne crane hired for the lifting.

The steel framework had 3no. 13m legs weighing in excess of a ton each and the total weight for the sign was over 6 tonnes. On the day, with great help from the guys on site, it was lifted into place with ease and the uprights were welded to the sheet piling.
All in a days work...
